Evaluation: Question Two.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Throughout my three products I have tried to create synergy with all the products. However, this was difficult to achieve in some aspect with the video compared to the ancillary tasks, especially for the title.

Within my music video I would have liked to include the title and artist name at the beginning of the video to help the audience to distinguish who the music video is written by and what it was about before they went further into the video. However, I found this difficult as there is a limited number of fonts on I-Movie that can be used in my video. I tried to combat this by presenting my album at the end of the video, which will help the audience to see that the music video links to that album and the song is also on that album. When I went on to complete the ancillary tasks I completed the Digi-pack first, where I perfected the fonts and sizes that I wanted for that. I then went on to do the poster, which in the first draft I use a different font. Once I received audience feedback I looked at the title again to which I realise that continuity was not present. However, I went on to correct this by transferring the title from my Digi-pack onto my advertisement to create the exact same effect with the text, creating synergy between my two ancillary tasks.

I also created this continuity throughout the them with the location, colour and costume, which was all kept similar in each task. In my main product the location is New Brighton Promenade and surrounding areas; which are present within all my products and the same actor is wearing the same outfit throughout to clearly show that he is the artist of the song. Therefore, the audience can easily make the connection between all three of the products.

My male actor in the music video is clearly present throughout each of the three products, on the front cover and inside front cover of my Digi-pack, on my advertisement and throughout my video, with the images being in the same location suggesting a part of the music video. However, there is a female character in the music video who is not present throughout any of my other ancillary tasks. I have done this as even though she is a main character, she is still not a focus in the video and the aim of the story is about her breaking his heart, making the story all about him. Therefore, I have decided not to include her in any of the shots as she is not relevant and would not make the audience recognise what that poster or Digi-pack was representing.

I used the same location for each of the images presented in my ancillary tasks and for the video to help the audience to make the connection between all the products. As well as this, the location instantly suggests a love story as it is not in a demanding city or busy location that would suggest action or a faster paced song to the audience. The colours within the image also create that sense of emotion that can been seen throughout the music video.

Even in sections of the ancillary tasks that didn’t need to completely show the title or the actor, I still kept the same continuity with the disk panel being a picture of the park that I filmed some of the memory scenes in as well as the back cover which are both faded images to make them more subtle yet effective to link all my products together by location.

I think there is a strong effectiveness between the synergy and set of products that I chose for this song that represents the story and the emotions whilst linking all the products together. I still think there could be improvements to make my products link more smoothly. However, I have chosen to do it in this specific way to create the emotion; as well as the story and not just focusing on linking the products.
