Completing My Second Draft.

I would like to work on my second draft shots throughout the week commencing 30th October 2017. I would like to carry on working with just my male character till I have found the correct shots that I would like to include.

During the session I would like to:

  • Film the full song with the male character lip syncing. I would like him to be walking through the water front. Recreating a scene I have already tried to portray. However, this time I would like to focus on the location as well as the lip-syncing.

  • I would like to also film some establishing shots that will be effective for emotion when there is no vocals and just the music.

Draft Filming: Actors.

I decided to only use one actor within my draft filming. This made sure that I had my shots right whilst getting some filming done to decide what I would like to re-film with the both actors. Also, I was previously unsure on order of filming and after my first draft I would like to create another to find a better way to portray my story.

Draft Filming: Costume

During my draft filming I asked my actor to wear what felt comfortable, following the plan that I had put together. I did not direct this too much as I did not want his dress code to be completely out of his style. Therefore, I focused less on this within my draft.

\

Going forward onto my next draft I would like to look at the props and costume and make sure that my actor is wearing different costumes to represent the different scenes within my project.

Draft Filming: location

During my draft filming of my music video, I decided to complete it within the school.

I did this as I chose to focus on other aspects like costume and camera angles so that I know what I would like to use in my next draft. In my next draft I would like to look at more shots using lip syncing and more camera techniques

Adding lyrics for my music video

After research of looking at previous made music videos, I have decided that I may add some lyrics in order to emphasis specific parts of the song. However, i am unsure where to add this until I have completed some filming.

Planning To Film

I would like to film a draft of my music video on Monday 16th October 2017. I am filming it on this day as I would like to see if my seen will look better with people walking in the background.

For this draft I will only be focusing on one of my actors and the lip-syncing scenes. I will be using my own camera for this.

Location Planning For My Final Piece

I would like to create my music video in four different locations. I am doing this to represent the story that I would like to portray.

On of the locations is the waterfront in New Brighton. The reason I am filming here is because I would like to create a sense of freshness coming to the relationship with the connotations of the air being fresh on the beach. As well as this, it also overlooks Liverpool so I will be able to get some shots of Liverpool from New Brighton.

I would like to also use Vale Park to create the sense of memories. This is a park with different areas that I could use to create different sections of the memories.

My third location is a Cafe in which would like to create the sense of the couple sorting out there differences and getting a long in a social situation.

Lastly, I will use a room to create the sense of loneliness for the character. I am unsure how I will do this.

draft shots for my music video. (add pictures)

I was looking at camera angles and emotions rather than location. However, I tried to replicate what I will like to when I go to the actual location.

Locations for draft shots (add pictures)

We have decided that for the draft shot I will use locations in the school in order to get the correct shots. This will help me when it comes to another draft filming where I can focus on location.

I will do this using some tables located in school and also a place that is very empty.

How I Will Portray My Story

I would like my story to be portrayed by using different camera angles, locations and editing.

The way that I will create my storyline, I will use shots of my actor lip-syncing to portray the narrative of the story. I will also use the location of a cafe to portray the present, and memories to portray the past. As well as this, I will use shorter shots to show the progression of their emotions towards each other.

Background To My Song.

Even though 'How to save a life' has it's own story, I have decided for my music video to change the message that The Fray are trying to portray.

The overall message that I would like portray is that between all of the fighting, arguments and conflict with someone. It is important to resolve it, or at least not hold onto hatred, as today could be someone's last day.

I am going to create this message with the use of a couple going through a hard time. The reason I am using a couple is for the idea that no matter what little argument someone has with the other person, the overall feelings you have towards someone is the reason you fell in love with them in the first place. The ending will represent how something can be resolved by talking about your problems.

Actors Planning

I have asked to have two actors in my video. These will be my friends: Cameron and Beth.

They will play the role of being in a relationship and both act throughout the music video and lip-sing to the backing music.

I also need two other people to be in the band. However, I am going to plan this later on, as I am unsure of the shots I am putting in.

Camera shots in my music video.

A lot of the shots that I would like to use are movement shots, along with some still shots.

Here is a list of the shots that I would like to include:
*Medium close up.
*Two shot
*Close up
*Wide shot

These shots will allow me to show both acting and lip-syncing throughout my music video.

Finished Storyboard

In my music video I have decided to create a story to match with the shots and editing that I would like to put into it.

The story is a long the lines of a strong relationship coming to a curving point and they can't find a way to solve the problem. The lyrics of 'how to save a life' will allow me to change the ending and change the idea from the original by allowing the camera shots and acting to show they have sorted out their differences.

I will achieve this with a number of shots.

Planning Costume

To plan the costume that I would like to use throughout my music video I have used different computer programmes to make my own outfits.

Firstly I used photoshop:

I used images of Google in order to get the body shape of both Male and Female, the actors I would like to use in my video:

I used these images a long with screenshots that I got from online shops to create the desired style and costume that I would like my actors to wear. These outfits may vary and could also change depending on filming of my video.

I then placed this on a story board so that I can see in what scene they will be wearing that costume and what they will be doing:

Actors for my music video.

For my music video I would like to have two actors; one female and one male. I would like these actors to consist throughout the whole video and  I don't plan for anymore unless this changes later on.

Creating my draft storyboard.

I am using IMovie to create my digital storyboard.

On this I am going to the icon in the right hand side of the screen:

This contains shots that I can use in order to develop the timing of my video.

As well as this, I will be using the text button in the right hand side of the screen:

I will be using this text in order to describe what I would like in each shot:

*Type of shot.
*Number of actors.
*Costume.
*Makeup.
*Sound.
*Location.
*Editing.
*Length of the shot.
*Props.
*Lighting
*Facial expressions
*General directions.

Plans For My Style Model.

The ideas spread within each of the music videos suggests heart break and sadness, especially the last in which it is clear it shows people who have lost someone.

I would like to use this idea of heart break in my music video as my main idea for the message I would like to portray throughout the video.

Target Audience Of My Style Model

My style model 'How To Save A Life' by The Fray:

I have decided for my target audience to be at an mid-age range of about 18-45. I have a large age range as the story I would like to focus on will have a lot of meaning and suggest a lot of different emotions throughout the song that will be relatable to all ages.

Mostly aimed at couples my video will suggest never giving up on something that means so much to you.

How To Save A Life Music Video.

The Original How To Save A life Music Video

How To Save A Life Research

The original video was first seen on the 12th September 2006, with themes of light and stopped time. It is based on a car crash with victims in pause, with the light throughout the video shining onto dark woods that the video takes place. With some scenes of the band playing in the forest.

After this they went on to create another music video for the TV programme Grey's Anatomy, where scenes of both the TV programme and the original music video were comprised to make the second video. However, the only scenes that are used in the original video are of the band in a warehouse.

They then went on to create a third music video, directed by Mark Pellington, which was released on the 6th December 2006. It features numbers of people between the ages of 12-18 years old, who are suffering from depression and the feeling of suicidal or people in mourning. It was known that all of the children in the music video had lost someone prior to filming. Therefore, it is seen that many of them are crying or screaming in the music video. It ends with the children finding peace with themselves and others.
